In this lesson, you will investigate some relationships that can be found within a line or within a set of lines.
In this section, you will investigate line segments. Let’s begin by watching a video that explains important concepts of line segments, including the notion of betweenness of points.

Based on what you saw in the video and what you know from previous lessons, drag the illustration to the appropriate term and definition.

Now, let’s investigate midpoints and congruent segments.

After viewing the video, answer the following question in your notes: How can you use the definition of midpoint to make or verify conjectures about relationships between two line segments?
If you know that a point is the midpoint of a line segment, then you know that point divides the line segment into two congruent pieces, or two pieces of equal length. You can use that information to determine segment lengths or to set up and solve an equation.
