Peaceful Protest

Credibility Gap

Students for a Democratic Society

26th Amendment

Many Americans who opposed the war in Vietnam used their 1st amendment right to peacefully protest the government's actions.

The Media and the Government often reported different accounts of the same events. American people no longer trusted the government's version of events in Vietnam.

Many students on college campuses protested the war and even dodged the draft in an effort not to go to the war in Vietnam.

Many young people in America thought it was unfair that they could be drafted into war at 18 but not allowed to vote until 21, so they worked to get a constitutional amendment lowering the voting age to 18.
