Berlin, the capital of , was divided into zones after World War II. Those zones were the United States, , French, and zones. Berlin would be divided from 1945-. Two Alliances were created by this division. On one side you had a alliance while on the other side there was a alliance. The Democratic Alliance was made up of the US, British, and French zones while the communist controlled Soviet zone created the other side. In an effort to limit any non-Soviet influence in Berlin, the Soviets (blocked all land routes into Berlin). The democratic alliance then supported an (airplanes would fly over and drop supplies) into West Berlin for 10 months in order to give food, medicine, and other supplies to the people of West Berlin.
