Just like prisms, pyramids are named by the shape of their base. A square pyramid has a square base and four triangular faces. It is the type of pyramids built by the Egyptians centuries ago.

Pyramids can have any polygon as a base. There will always be as many triangular lateral faces, or sides, as there are sides on the polygonal base.
