Where were the Mongols from and what areas did they conquer?

Genghis Khan led the Mongols out of the steppes of Central Asia to conquer much of the known world. On horseback, Mongol warriors swept across much of Asia, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. Their empire extended from Korea to Poland, and from Vietnam to Syria.
