The late 1800s was a period of industrialization, urbanization, and increased immigration. As industry expanded, rural Americans moved to cities in search of factory jobs. Millions of immigrants, seeking economic opportunities and political freedoms, also flocked to America’s cities. While these changes brought many benefits to America, they also produced challenging problems. The Progressive Era was initiated as a result of these problems.
