Today’s Texas state government is based upon the Texas Constitution of 1876. Although there have been attempts to rewrite it, this document still governs Texas today. As in many of its versions, the Texas Constitution is similar to the U.S. Constitution.

To illustrate the similarities of both of these constitutions, complete the following activity. Read the excerpts from both the Texas Constitution and the U.S. Constitution, and determine which constitutional principles apply to the given excerpts.
