Eastern European Immigrants

There were several immigrant groups that came to Texas from Eastern Europe. These immigrants came to Texas for various reasons ranging from fleeing famine to seeking better living conditions in America.

Some Eastern European immigrants entered the United States at Ellis Island and then traveled to Texas. Most, however, entered through Galveston and settled in Texas. The culture of these groups remains a part of the Texan culture today.

Western European Immigration

Most Europeans who immigrated to Texas came from Western Europe. While most Western European immigrant groups were German, there were other immigrant groups represented in Texas, such as the Irish and French.

Galveston served as the main port of entry for those making Texas their first destination. Other Western Europeans made their way to Texas after first arriving at other destinations in the United States.
