Scenario 1:
Tamika is working in the lab with several chemicals that are in different test tubes. She is wondering what would happen if she mixes some of these chemicals together. What should Tamika do? Why?
Scenario 1 Answers:
Tamika should NOT mix the chemicals! She should wait for her teacher's instructions. In the lab we never mix chemicals unless instructed to do so.
Scenario 2:
Maria is heating a liquid in a test tube. She knows she is supposed to heat the test tube in a specific direction but doesn't remember exactly which direction it is. According to the lab safety procedures, what direction should Maria heat the test tube? Why?
Scenario 2 Answers:
Maria should heat the liquid in the test tube with the opening of the test tube pointing in a direction away from herself and others.
Scenario 3:
Enrique is working on a volume measurement lab. One of the liquids Enrique is supposed to measure smells like cherry Kool-Aid. He is wondering if the liquid also tastes likes Kool-Aid. What shouldn't he do to find out? Why?
Scenario 3 Answers:
Enrique should NOT taste the liquid!!! According to the safety procedures, you should never touch, taste, or smell any unknown liquids unless instructed to do so by the teacher.
