Plants also have adaptations that allow them to survive and reproduce in their environment. For example, cacti are typically found in desert environments where there is very little water. Cacti have thick stems that store water. Cacti also have modified leaves that are sharp brittle spines. The spines protect the water-filled stems from animals.

Scientists divided the major land environments into different biomes. The abiotic factors differ in each biome therefore; plants must have adaptions to allow them to survive in those unique conditions.
