In previous lessons, you learned about percents.
Because a percent is a ratio, you can use what you know about ratio and proportion to solve percent problems.
In this lesson, you will learn how you can do each of the following:
Determine the percent that a part of the whole represents. | For example, if 33 out of 60 people like going to the movies on the weekend, then 55% of people like going to the movies on the weekend. |
Determine the part that a percent of the whole represents. | For example, if 60% of students speak both English and Spanish at home and there are 240 sixth grade students at Wilson Middle School, then 144 students speak both English and Spanish at home. |
Determine the whole from a percent representing a given part. | For example, if 24% of Ms. Mikulski’s students attend after-school tutorials and 18 students attended after-school tutorials, then Ms. Mikulski has 75 students. |
