H-ACID + BASE-OH → HOH + SALT
Acid + Base produces water and a salt
Neutralization is the process of producing water and a salt from the addition of an acid and a base.
The proton (H+) from the acid is accepted by the hydroxide ion (OH-) of the base to produce water.
The anion of the acid and the cation of the base produce a compound known as a salt. Any salt can be traced back to its "parent acid" and "parent base."
