Now you are going to create a problem for a system of equations.

Eight systems of equations are given in the following table. Choose one system of equations, then write statements in the box to the right of the system of equations that would translate from words to the given system of equations.

Read the two examples that are given below.

x+1.5y=4 and x=y-1

Mary spent $4.00 on cheeseburgers & french fries. Cheeseburgers cost $1.00 and french fries cost $1.50. The number of cheeseburgers she bought is 1 less than the number of french fries.

x+y=5 and 4x+3y=2

Marcus makes a profit of $5.00 when he makes and sells one of his T-shirts. This week he made 4 shirts and sold 3 shirts for a profit of $2.00.

Instructions

  1. Choose one of the sets of systems of equations given below.
  2. Write a problem using the set of equations you have chosen.
  3. If you can, ask someone else to find the system of equations for the problem you wrote.
2x+3y=6 and y=2x-6 2x+6y=3 and y=2x-6 x+y=8 and 5x+3y=6 x+y=6 and 5x+3y=8
2x+3y=6 and y=6-2x 2x+6y=3 and y=6-2x x+y=8 and 5x+6y=3 x+y=6 and 5x+6y=3
