The sixth rule to factoring is to look for polynomials with four or more terms. If there are four or more terms, you need to group them together and then factor each part.

Rule #6

If a polynomial has four or more terms, it’s probably the grouping or “box” kind.

In the box method, you put the terms into the four cells of a box and find the factors for each cell.

In the grouping method, you group the terms into groups where you can find a common factor. You then find a common factor and rewrite the terms using the distributive property so they can be combined.
