In this resource, you are going to review factoring.

A factor is one of two or more numbers or algebraic expressions that when multiplied together produce a given product.

Factors of Integers

Example: 12  (With Models)

1 row of 12 red circles; 2 rows of six red circles; four rows of three red circles

Factoring Polynomials

Example: 2x + 4 (With Model)

(x + 2)
2 and (x + 2) 2 rows of 1 green rectangle and 2 yellow squares

Example: x2 + x – 6 (With an Algebra Tile Model)

(x + 3) and (x – 2) Squares-1 white, 6 gray; Rectangles-3 white, 2 gray

Notice that all models of factoring are represented in rectangular models. If a polynomial expression does not make a rectangle besides 1 and itself, it is prime and will not factor.
