This location is not only on a very large body of water (the ocean) but it is also located at the end point of a river (fresh water). This is an ideal location for a settlement as the ocean can be used for trade and the fresh water can be used for sustaining the settlement and irrigating any crops that may need to be planted.
This location is at the convergence of two rivers. Depending on the size of the rivers, this area could use the available water for power, irrigation, transportation, trade, and essential consumption. A city placed on this spot would be successful as long as the climate was not too cold and the rainfall was adequate.
This location is on a large body of water with rivers emptying in to it. A self-sustaining settlement would succeed in this location because there is a water source to provide irrigation and drinking water for the population. However, without another evident transportation method, it is hard to tell whether the settlement would be as successful as that of point A and C.
This location appears to be at a higher elevation with no noticeable water source nearby. A settlement here would have a difficult time surviving without a source for transportation, trade, or useable water.
